Cookie Policy

This page lists what Majumedia stores on your device and why. It describes what the site actually does — if you find something here that does not match what you observe, tell us and we will correct the page or the behaviour.

Your choice comes first

Nothing optional runs until you allow it. The banner shown on your first visit sets analytics and advertising to off; choosing Essential only keeps them off permanently. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, so refusing cookies does not itself require setting one.

Essential — always on

These make the site work at all. There is no way to switch them off and still use the site.

mj_cc — the country your request arrived from, used to pick which currency prices are shown in. It stores a two-letter country code and nothing else. Expires after 30 days.
mj_cur — the currency you picked by hand, if you used the currency switcher. Set only when you choose one.
sb-…-auth-token — your sign-in session, set only if you have an account and are signed in. Readers browsing the site never receive it.
mj_staff — set only for signed-in staff, so the editing toolbar knows to appear. It grants nothing on its own.

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics 4 sets its own cookies to measure which pages are read and how people arrive. We use this to decide what to write about. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

We also use privacy-friendly page-view counting that works without cookies, and our own click counters for outbound affiliate links — those record that a link was clicked, not who clicked it.

Advertising

If advertising is enabled and you accept it, an ad network may set cookies to limit repetition and measure performance. Refusing advertising leaves the pages intact; you simply see untargeted or no ads.

Third parties you may meet

Merchant sites. Following an affiliate link hands you to a retailer, who will set their own cookies under their own policy — including one identifying us as the referrer, which is how any commission is attributed. What they do next is governed by their policy, not this one.
Cloudflare. Serves and protects the site, and may set a security cookie on the sign-in page to tell people from bots.

Changing your mind

Clear this site's cookies and local storage in your browser settings and the banner returns, letting you choose again. Every major browser can also block cookies wholesale or per-site — the site still works, though prices may show in the wrong currency and you will not be able to sign in.

Do Not Track

We do not load optional trackers unless you have opted in, so a Do Not Track signal changes nothing about what we do — the default is already off.
