Amazon has refreshed the Kindle Colorsoft for 2026 with a slimmer body, an edge-to-edge color screen and a power button that is harder to press by accident. If you mostly read comics, manga or graphic novels, color is the reason to pick a Colorsoft over a Paperwhite. Here is what changed, what each edition costs and who should buy one.
What is new in the Kindle Colorsoft 2026
- Thinner design: 6.8mm thick, down from 7.8mm on the 2024 model.
- Lighter standard model: the 16GB Colorsoft drops from 211g to 204g, according to TechRadar's spec comparison.
- Edge-to-edge color display: still 7 inches, at 300 ppi for black-and-white content and 150 ppi for color.
- Relocated power button: now on the upper-right edge, where it is less likely to be pressed by accident.
- New Fig colorway alongside Graphite on the adult models.
Kindle Colorsoft vs Colorsoft Signature Edition
| Kindle Colorsoft (2026) | Colorsoft Signature Edition (2026) | |
|---|---|---|
| US price | $289.99 | $319.99 |
| Storage | 16GB | 32GB |
| Weight | 204g | 229g |
| Wireless charging | No | Yes |
| Auto-adjusting front light | No | Yes |
| Waterproofing | IPX8 | IPX8 |
| Battery life | Up to 8 weeks | Up to 8 weeks |
The Signature Edition adds double the storage, an aluminum back, wireless charging and an auto-adjusting front light. Note that it is slightly heavier than the 2024 Signature (229g vs 219g), so only the standard model gets lighter this year. For graphic novel readers, the extra storage is the most practical upgrade, because color comics take up far more space than text-only books.
Is it the best e-reader for comics and graphic novels?
For color-heavy reading, yes: a color E Ink screen keeps the glare-free, paper-like experience while showing covers, panels and illustrations in color. The trade-offs are a lower 150 ppi resolution for color content and shorter battery life than the black-and-white Kindle Paperwhite, which TechRadar rates at up to 12 weeks compared with the Colorsoft's eight.
If you mostly read novels and non-fiction, the Paperwhite remains the better value. If you read in the bath or by the pool, every Colorsoft model is IPX8 waterproof, and all of them include adjustable warm light for night reading.
Should you buy the 2024 or 2026 model?
Buy the 2026 model. TechRadar notes that Amazon raised prices on the 2024 Colorsoft to match the new range, so the older model costs the same in the US while being thicker and heavier. If you travel a lot, pair the Colorsoft with a compact charger from our best USB-C travel power banks guide.
How much does the Kindle Colorsoft 2026 cost?
In the US the Kindle Colorsoft (16GB) costs $289.99 and the Colorsoft Signature Edition (32GB) costs $319.99. A Kids edition is $299.99.
Is the Kindle Colorsoft waterproof?

How long does the Kindle Colorsoft battery last?
