Samsung's 2027 foldable lineup may include a phone that slides open instead of folding. Known Samsung tipster Anthony (@TheGalox_ on X) has posted what he says is the company's full 2027 foldable lineup, and at the top of the list is the Galaxy Z Slide, a phone with a rollable screen that extends sideways. Samsung has not confirmed the device, and other reports point to a later launch.
What the leak claims
According to the leak, reported by Gizmodo, Samsung's 2027 lineup would include the new Galaxy Z Slide alongside refreshed versions of the Galaxy Z Flip, Z Fold and a Fold Ultra, plus the return of a TriFold model. The tipster calls it "the biggest foldable lineup ever." South Korean outlets have also described a "4+4" plan: four conventional phones in the first half of 2027 and four foldables in the second half.
What is the Galaxy Z Slide?
Instead of a hinge, a rollable phone stores part of its display inside the body and slides it out when you want a larger screen. That could give you a regular-size phone in your pocket and a near-tablet screen when you need it, without the crease that folding phones have. No specifications for the Z Slide have been reported.
Samsung has been working on this for years
Samsung first applied to trademark the "Z Slide" name in 2021, and its display division showed a phone-size screen that expanded horizontally that same year. At CES 2025, Samsung Display demonstrated slidable panels, including one that grew from 5.1 inches to 6.7 inches. Oppo has also shown slidable phone prototypes, but none of these concepts has become a mainstream retail phone.
2027 or 2028?
The timing is unclear. In June 2026, South Korean outlet Money Today reported that Samsung was developing a rollable phone provisionally called "Z Slide," and a company representative reportedly said the target was the first half of 2028. That conflicts with the 2027 timing in the new leak. Until Samsung announces it, treat both dates as unconfirmed.
What it means for buyers
- Do not wait for it if you need a phone now. Even on the most optimistic timeline, the Z Slide is a year or more away.
- Expect a premium price. First-generation form factors are usually expensive, and durability of the sliding mechanism is still an open question.
- Want a big screen today? Current foldables are the closest option. See our Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs iPhone Ultra comparison.
